Avoid a Blowout: Inspect Your Tires

As a car owner, you understand the importance of keeping up with routine maintenance to make sure your car is safe for you and your family. One area that is sometimes forgotten is checking your car’s tires. Below are some reasons why it is important to check your tires:

  • Tire Pressure - It is important to check your tire pressure because the wrong tire pressure can lead to uneven wear of your tires, decreased fuel economy, damage to the tires causing them to blow out and cause an accident. Check your car owner’s manual to see what the correct pressure and use a tire pressure gauge to make sure your tires are at the right pressure.
  • Tire Wear - It is important to check the wear on your tires because worn tires can lead to unsafe driving conditions. If your tires are worn, they no longer grip the road properly while driving and can cause you to lose control of your vehicle, especially in bad weather like snow and rain. Tires should have a tread depth of 2/32 inches. You can test this by taking a penny, turning it upside down, and placing it in the tire tread. If you can see Lincoln’s whole head, it is time to replace the tire.

At Helena Honda, we want to make sure all drivers are safe and have tires with the correct pressure and tread depth. If you have any questions about your tires, come visit our Honda service center in Helena, MT and speak with one of our experts.
